Like so many of our feature stories, the fruition of a full custom build also represents the culmination of a long sought-after dream. This gorgeous example of a 1951 Ford pick-up is no departure from that trend, as it represents the final steps to the realization of a dream conjured up nearly sixty years ago.

Normally, when people build a car, they figure out their drivetrain and dump a big chunk of change into that. Then they get their bodywork done, the car painted and they forget about the wiring till last and usually don’t have any money left over or not enough. There is always one book that seems to find its way onto the shelves of virtually every car guy (or gal) who likes to get a little greasy and turn a wrench under the hood of their car. One such title is author Tom Brownell’s ever popular How to Restore Your Collector Car. First published in 1983, this perennial best seller still stands as a worthwhile reference, but due to the enormous advances in this field over the last quarter century it was time to publish an update.

The nearest track is Shannonville, which is about 45 minutes west of us, but it doesn’t put on IHRA- or NHRA-sanctioned professional events. In B.C., I had always gone to the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, Washington to get my fix of Top Fuel racing.

Why is this car considered to be worth so much? This is the car that achieved what Carroll Shelby desperately wanted after he lost to Ferrari in the F.I.A. World Manufacturers Championship for GT cars in 1964 – it won the next year.

Cowie Wins First-Ever National Event But Force Remains Fan Favourite!

This year on my annual journey to the SEMA show, I decided to go early so that I could take in the final day of the NHRA Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Before I get into the event, though, I have to advise anyone who is into racing, be it NASCAR or NHRA...
