The first thing that comes to minds for the average person when visualizing a pink car is no doubt the sight of the Mary Kay lady pulling up in a shiny pink Cadillac. Not so for the average Mopar enthusiast. No, for these loyalists the image of a rare Panther Pink Challenger, Roadrunner, Charger or Cuda is no doubt what comes to mind. The Mercury Eight is one of the most recognizable icons of the Hot Roding world. While many still refer to these cars affectionately as the “Merc,” the Eight was Mercury’s first named model. It was Mercury’s first design after the war, and was aimed to be something unique, and separate itself from its Ford cousin. Built from 1949 to 1951, the Eight was available with a 100 hp 239 flathead V8 and came in a 4-door sedan or 2-door coupe.

Ah, the joy of speed. That is the Holy Grail that each racer reaches for and it is no different for Pitt Meadows, B.C. resident Rob Fisher. His wild 2003 Mustang Cobra Terminator runs a 10:29 at 136 miles per hour and lays claim to being the fastest Cobra in Western Canada. But that doesn’t stop Fisher from always looking to shave off a few more tenths each time he runs out at the Friday night street legal races at Mission Raceway Park.
