Loudon, TN (February 2, 2010)... After an extensive and over-the-top sweepstakes last year when Cherry Bomb gave away its highly publicized project Dodge Charger on national television, owner Paul Banks knew it was time to outdo himself on the next one. His plan: to team with YearOne and recreate his own version of the 1968 Camaro, one of the cars largely responsible for the early success of the Cherry Bomb Glasspack brand.
Cherry Bomb’s Disturbing the Peace 1968 Project Camaro blends today’s radical technology with ‘60s & ‘70s hotrod style.
The LSX-based engine will be given significant enhancements by an 8-71 BDS blower, a BDS intercooler system, electronic fuel injection, aftermarket EFI and coil pack controllers, a custom accessory drive system, and, of course, a killer custom exhaust with Cherry Bomb side pipes. The fuel system will include a custom fuel tank with baffles and in-tank fuel pumps, and the cooling system will be made up of a Be Cool aluminum radiator and custom covered hoses. A T-56 Magnum 6-Speed Transmission by Tremec will round out the torque transfer.
The rear axle: a Moser 9-inch rear with 3.73 posi. A Detroit Speed and Engineering hydroformed subframe and C6 steering knuckles and tubular control arms will make up the front suspension, followed in the rear by a Detroit Speed and Engineering Quadra-Link. Baer 6S 6-piston brakes will provide its occasional need for stopping power.
The wheel-and-tire combo sets the whole tone of the ride with Custom Billet Slot Mags in 18x8 fronts and 18x12 rears, on BFG g-Force KDW 245/40-18 up front and BFG g-Force Drag Radial 345/30-18 in the rear.
A Vintage Air AC system, Alpine head unit and Boston Acoustics amps and speakers round out the interior’s must-have creature comforts. The interior will, of course, include YearOne restoration parts, Classic Instruments gauges, and custom Cerullo seats. The body: YearOne reproduction panels and trim mini-tubbed and modified for four-link rear suspension. Painted Cherry Bomb red over flat black with gloss stripes, and black powder-coated trim and details, this Disturbing the Peace Camaro will be considered another true Cherry Bomb signature statement!
In addition to the legendary Cherry Bomb Glasspack, Cherry Bomb now offers six different high performance muffler products, each created with their own unique design that provides improved horsepower and fuel savings, plus a great high performance sound including Cherry Bomb Pro, Cherry Bomb Elite, Cherry Bomb Extreme (available in traditional Cherry Bomb red), Cherry Bomb Turbo, and the company’s top-of-the-line, most technologically advanced product, the Cherry Bomb Vortex. Additionally, Cherry Bomb offers a wide range of cat-back systems, accessories, and a very popular line of apparel including hats, garage jackets, tee shirts and more.

Auction Matriarch Passes
Many car buffs might not know her name or what she was mostly responsible for, but mention ‘Barrett-Jackson’ and it will all fall into place. Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction lost the last of its founding generation with the death Wednesday, February 10 of Ellen “Nellie” Jackson, 90. The wife of Russell Jackson, co-founder of the 39-year-old Scottsdale auction with Tom Barrett III, Nellie was fondly known as the matriarch of Barrett-Jackson, who, despite her advanced years, was still deeply involved in the event. In January’s event this year, she attended part of the Scottsdale auction, seen in the front row in the enormous main tent.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, she arrived with her husband in Arizona in 1960, Russ driving his 1934 Cadillac V12 Opera Coupe and Nellie driving a new 1960 Cadillac. She remained fond of that era of Cadillac throughout her life, over the years owning several of the ’59 models with their towering fins, as well as many American classics from the 1930s. Russ Jackson and Tom Barrett met in 1967, when the two classic-car collectors haggled over a 1933 Cadillac that Barrett wanted to sell. They never did agree on a price, but their meeting resulted in a friendship and partnership that spawned the inaugural Barrett-Jackson auction in 1971 in Scottsdale.
Throughout the years, Nellie Jackson was integral to the growth of the collector-car auction from the small-town event that started the run, to the monumental event that it is today. In 2004, she was honoured with Meguiar’s Treasure of the Collector Car Hobby.
After the retirement of the founders, the auction business was operated by the Jacksons’ elder son, Brian, with the assistance of his brother, Craig, who was 14 years younger. Brian died of cancer in 1995 at the age of 49, which suddenly thrust Craig into the leadership role of the huge event. But Craig had his mother’s help, just as Brian did before him. Nellie was known for her sharp business sense and encyclopedic memory of thousands of collector cars’ histories. With her accounting background, she was able to help guide the business as it grew by leaps and bounds. Since 1996, the Barrett-Jackson auction has grown into 2010’s four multi-day events in Scottsdale, West Palm Beach, Las Vegas and now Orange County, bolstered by many hours of live television that are SPEED’s highest-rated programs.
In a recent interview for Phoenix Woman magazine, Nellie said, “Brian ran the auction business until he passed away. Then Craig took over and has really grown the business to what it is today. His dad would be so proud.”
Nellie Jackson is survived by Craig and grandchildren Shelby and Hunter Jackson. August 7, 1919 – February 10, 2010.

JF Kustoms TV
Many of you will remember the article in our March/April 2009 issue covering acclaimed and revolutionary Canadian customiser, JF Launier of JF Kustoms, based in Osoyoos, BC.
For those who don’t, JF received the coveted World’s Most Beautiful Custom award at the 59th Sacramento Autorama in Sacramento, CA in February 2009. Launier’s R’Evolution, the highly-acclaimed 1955 Chrysler Wagon, was chosen for its stylization, high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout.
Not a guy to rest on his laurels, there have been some other significant efforts undertaken. ‘We’ve got a bit of everything… a Shelby Mustang GT500 getting the show car finish, a ‘51 Dodge two-door Business Coupe that looks traditional (til you lift the hood), a ’55 Chev H/T street rod/show car, the Riviera street machine project and a few other little surprises,’ JF explains on his website (www.jfkustoms.com).
At the time, even with the projects underway or simply in the planning stage, it was mentioned there would be some involvement in a TV series. Well – it has happened.
DHS Productions is proud to announce its partnership with JF Kustoms to produce a weekly web-based entertainment show. As of January 15, 2010, you will be able to keep up with one of the automotive industry’s newest rising stars, JF Launier and his crew at JF Kustoms. The show is a short ten minutes per week, but will offer the audience an interesting look at what it takes to be a young Canadian kid in a heavily U.S.-influenced hobby. You will see the trials and tribulations first hand as this team tries to stay ahead of a quickly growing industry.
JF was also last year’s ‘Trendsetter of the Year’ at SEMA – a title not taken lightly. Can the crew stay on top of the bubble? What obstacles have they faced and will stand in their way? With colourful staff, great customers and a busy family life, JF’s show promises to have what it takes to be entertaining and educational.
