Ah, the joy of speed. That is the Holy Grail that each racer reaches for and it is no different for Pitt Meadows, B.C. resident Rob Fisher. His wild 2003 Mustang Cobra Terminator runs a 10:29 at 136 miles per hour and lays claim to being the fastest Cobra in Western Canada. But that doesn’t stop Fisher from always looking to shave off a few more tenths each time he runs out at the Friday night street legal races at Mission Raceway Park.
The Mustang is near and dear to Fisher, who works as a helicopter engineer in Malaysia, as this is the fourth that he has owned over the years dating back to the first 1989 LX he purchased in the early nineties. But as soon as he saw the 2003 Cobra, he knew he had to have one so it was off to Brown Bros. Ford in Vancouver to trade in his 1997 for the newer version. From there he has done a ton of modification (and we mean a ton) including changing to a 96 Cobra Teskid aluminum block to reduce weight. All of which has been overseen exclusively by Wayne Johnson of the service department at Brown's, a dealership that has poured out dozens of 600+ horsepower cars over the years and is a major supporter of drag racing in the area.
Modifications currently under way include taking out the independent rear suspension and replacing it with a solid axle conversion to drop a bunch of weight and hopefully get it to hook up a bunch harder in preparation for competing at Pinks All Out this August in Seattle and the Mega Ford Weekend in September at Mission. The ultimate goal is to try running a ten flat and taking home the $10,000 cash up for grabs at Pinks and retaining his title as the fastest Cobra in the west.
