Mercedes-Benz Officially Unveils X-Class Mid-Size Pickup

We told you a few issues back about the new Mercedes-Benz mid-size pickup that will launch at some point this year in other markets outside of North America. We would like to be able to tell you that Mercedes has changed its mind and will be offering the truck to those of us here in North America, but that still seems unlikely at least for the near future. What we can tell you, however, is that Mercedes has recently officially unveiled the truck (named the X-Class) at a special event in Cape Town, South Africa. The truck shares its platform with the new Nissan Navara mid-size truck currently being offered in other markets, but is likely to come here using the Frontier nameplate. Not much has changed since we showed you the concept, as it still looks fairly similar to the Navara with some Mercedes styling on the front and back, but even more details have now emerged. Three trim levels will be offered including (in order) Pure, Progressive and Power, and the interior of the truck will boast quite a few Mercedes styling cues giving it a truly luxurious feel. Powering the truck will be four engine options including two 2.3L inline-four diesel engines, an inline-four gasser, and a top-of-the-line V6 diesel that will push out 258 horsepower. The X-Class will hit European, South African, Australian, Argentinian, and Brazilian markets and we can only hope that somehow, they will eventually be offered here.
