Next Generation 2019 Toyota TRD Pro Off-Road Models Unveiled in Chicago
Toyota has unveiled the next generation of its TRD Pro Series vehicles including the Tacoma TRD Pro, Tundra TRD Pro and 4Runner TRD Pro models all of which feature a long list of impressive off-road oriented equipment designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD). Each of the 2019 TRD Pro models will ride on a 2.5-in. TRD Pro-exclusive Fox Internal Bypass shocks on both the front and rear that have been specifically tuned for each vehicle. The shocks offer great performance and excellent damping making them ideal for a wide variety of driving situations. Typical off-road race vehicles traditionally have external bypass tubes on their shock bodies to fine-tune damping pressure; however each high-tech Fox shock compactly incorporates bypass zones inside of the shock. This provides a comfortable ride during normal operation but a progressively stiffer one through the shock stroke to provide ideal bottoming resistance.
The Tacoma TRD Pro is based off of the TRD Off-Road grade and adds the aforementioned 2.5-in. Fox shocks that are paried with TRD-tuned springs that provide an additional 1-in. of front lift. A larger sway bar is also included to retain crisp steering and a number of other TRD equipment is included as well including an updated front skid plate and a TRD exhaust system with an accented black chrome tip. Inside of the new Tacoma TRD Pro will feature a standard moonroof and is of course equipped with TRD Pro branded elements throughout including floormats, seats, and headrests. Other distinguishing features include 16-in. TRD Pro black alloy wheels with Goodyear All-terrain tires, Rigid Industries LED fog lights, and a black TOYOTA grille just to name a few. Finally, perhaps the most noticeable Tacoma upgrades is the addition of the TRD Desert Air intake which provides a truly off-road look and is fully functional should you get into some tough terrain where it is necessary.
The Tunrda TRD Pro also receives a few upgrades for 2019 including the Fox shocks, similar Rigid Industries LED fog lights found in the Tacoma, and LED headlights with LED accent lights that feature a unique black treatment. The truck sits on a set of 18-in. BBS forged-aluminum, five-spoke satin black wheels wrapped in Michelin all-terrain tires. Inside features TRD logos throughout and outside features some of the same upgrades found on the Tacoma including skid plate and exhaust.
Finally, the iconic 4Runner once again receives upgrades to its TRD Pro model for 2019. The same Fox shocks found in the Tacoma and Tundra are used, as is a similar skid plate and interior items such as floor mats, shift knobs, seats and headrests. Different from its pickup truck brethren, the 4Runner receives a new roof rack that is ideal for larger items or things that you don’t want in the cabin of the SUV.
As with all new vehicle announcements these days, the TRD Pro Series vehicles feature a plethora of safety features meant to keep the driver, passengers and fellow drivers as safe as possible. Standard features include Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock brakes and Smart Stop Technology just to name a few.
The Toyota TRD Pro models will be available in three colours and will be available in the fall of this year.
