Volkswagen Reportedly Files U.S. Trademark for Amarok Name
According to a report from Motrolix.com, Volkswagen has filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the Amarok name, which of course is the name of the German automaker’s mid-size pickup truck sold in other markets outside of North America. The report stated that the application process began back in late November of last year and although some will definitely interpret it as the early stages of Volkswagen offering the Amarok for purchase here in North America, it is suggested that this may just be VW protecting itself by securing the name should it ever decide to bring the truck over here. In the past, VW executives have suggested that there are no immediate plans to bring the Amarok to North America, despite the resurgence of the mid-size truck market here in the last few years with the return of GM’s Colorado/Canyon twins, the continued success of the Toyota Tacoma, the forthcoming 2019 Ford Ranger, and the rumoured next-gen Nissan Frontier. It’s no question that if it were to come over here, the Amarok would definitely pique some people’s interest, but until any more indication is made that this is actually a possibility, for now this remains food for thought.
