Dodge Reveals Information for 2019 Challenger and Charger Lineup
Dodge have released information for the 2019 lineups of both the Challenger and Charger, highlighted by the announcement of the all-new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye which Dodge says is ‘Possessed by the Demon’ and features a 797 horsepower Supercharged HEMI high-output engine under the hood.
Challenger
As mentioned, the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye features a 6.2L HEMI high-output V8 engine that produces an astonishing 797 horsepower and 707 lb.-ft. of torque paired to a TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Like the Demon its derived from, the Redeye features 25 major component upgrades including a larger supercharger, stronger connecting rods and pistons, high-speed valve train and improved lubrication system. When compared to the standard Hellcat engine, the Redeye will have the largest factory supercharger of any production car, increased boost pressure, a higher RPM limit and two dual-stage fuel pumps versus one. Also different from the standard Hellcat, the Redeye offers two final drive ratios including a standard 2.62:1 or available 3.09:1 for enhanced launch capability. The entire Hellcat lineup will feature a new fully functional dual-snorkel hood that provides maximum air intake to the supercharged powerplant and pays homage to design themes seen on 1960’s and 70’s muscle cars. Also new for 2019, the Challenger SRT and Scat Pack 392 models will offer a Widebody package that features fender flares that add 8.8-in. to the overall width of the vehicle which results in a more muscular stance. The Hellcat Redeye also features the award winning SRT Power Chiller which further lowers the intake air temperature which results in better performance.
Aside from the Hellcat models, the 2019 Challenger features changes and updates throughout its lineup including a new, Hellcat-inspired look for the Scat Pack 392 models along with new standard features including Line Lock, Launch Control and SRT Drive modes. The R/T and GT RWD models also gain more performance features and a new lower cost cloth interior.
Charger
Doge are repositioning the Charger lineup for 2019, creating six distinct models that offer a range of performance and powertrain options in what is the only current 4-door muscle car available. The top of the lineup of course features the Charger SRT Hellcat that remains the quickest sedan in the world with the 6.2L HEMI V8 engine under the hood that produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. New for 2019 the Charger Hellcat will feature Launch Assist, Line Lock, After-Run chiller, Torque Reserve and a new performance grille with dual air inlets which feed cooler air into the engine compartment. Next is the Charger R/T Scat Pack model that features Launch Assist and Line Lock now as standard and the same new performance grille with dual air inlets as the Hellcat. The Charger R/T model adopts new performance looks including a performance hood, fascia, spoiler and seats. The Charger SXT AWD is a new model for 2019 and features a Pentastar V6 engine driving all four wheels while the Charger GT RWD performance model features the same powertrain but adopts more performance oriented looks including the hood, spoiler and seats. Finally, the base model Charger SXT features a tuned down version of the Pentastar V6 and now includes electronic stability control, remote start, cruise control, electric power steering, a capless fuel filler and automatic halogen projector headlamps.
