Ford Mustang Named the World’s Best-Selling Sports Coupe for 3rd Straight Year
The Ford Mustang has been named the best-selling sports coupe in the world for 2017 with global sales numbers totaling 125,809 cars according to Ford analysis of the new light vehicle registration data from HIS Markit. The data is compiled from government and other sources and captures 95% of global new vehicle volumes in more than 80 countries. Of the almost 126,000 examples sold, 81,866 of those were sold in the United States which accounts for nearly one-third of all sales. Here in Canada, the Mustang was also our own best-selling sports coupe for the third straight year with 8,348 cars being sold which was a 9% increase over 2016. The study also showed that the most popular configuration worldwide was indeed the Mustang GT with the ever-capable 5.0L V8 engine under the hood. Since global exports of the Mustang began in 2015, through December 2017, Ford have sold a grand total of 418,000 Mustangs around the world.
