Ford Unveils Line-Lock on Entire Mustang Lineup
Ford have recently unveiled that they plan on expanding the availability of electronic line-lock for the upcoming 2018 Mustang by making the feature standard on all models, including the 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder. The track-exclusive feature, that was previously only made available for the 5.0L V8 powered Mustang GT, is available with either the 10-speed SelectShift automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Additionally, on models with the 12-inch all-digital display drivers will see, for the first time in the entire industry, a video-game like animation of a spinning alloy wheel kicking up a cloud of smoke to indicate when the line-lock feature is activated.
To introduce the new updates, Ford brought in Formula Drift Champion Vaugn Gittin Jr. to randomly recruit pedestrians to join him at Irwindale Speedway in Southern California where he put them behind the wheel of a new Mustang to lay rubber. At the event, Gittin was quoted as saying “Burnouts just never get old, no matter how old you are and how many times you’ve done them… You’ve got to love these rad things Ford is doing.”
In case you weren’t aware, Electronic Line-lock is traditionally used by drag racers ahead of the starting line to heat up the tires for improved traction and this new feature in the 2018 Mustang utilizes software technology that allows amateur race car drivers to achieve more consistent performance times.
The 2018 Mustang is due out in showrooms later this year ,and on top of the upgrades mentioned above, will feature a sleeker design, more advanced technology and improved performance across all models.
