Porsche Unveils Most Powerful Street-Legal 911 Model of All Time

Porsche 911Porsche used the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK to unveil the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 model ever made; the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The car weighs in at just 3,421 lbs. (1,552 kg) with a full tank of gas and is powered by an incredible 3.8L twin-turbo flat-six engine that pushes out an astounding 700 horsepower with 553 lb.-ft. of torque. The power plant is based on the engine found in the current 911 Turbo S model and adds larger turbochargers, a new cooling system and pushes the GT2 RS from 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h). The engine is paired to a customized GT seven-speed double-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission that maximizes efficiency and provides an uninterrupted torque transfer. A specially developed lightweight titanium exhaust system weighs around 15 lbs. less than the one used in the 911 Turbo and delivers an absolutely immaculate exhaust note.

The 911 GT2 RS also boasts exceptional dry grip thanks to a race-bred chassis with rear axle steering and a set of Ultra High Performance tires. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes come standard while many of the exterior pieces such as the front fenders, wheel housing vents, outer mirror shells, and the air intakes are made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The interior of the car also features many carbon fiber trim pieces as well as red Alcantara and black leather. The full bucket sport seats feature carbon fiber reinforced backrests which offer a high level of support while still remaining lightweight.

Porsche 911To further enhance performance, Porsche is offering the optional Weissach package that sheds 40 lbs. off of the overall weight thanks to elements like magnesium wheels, and a carbon fiber roof and anti-roll bars. Additionally the Weissach package adds a painted, centrally placed decorative strip in the vehicle colour for a distinctive look. All of this comes in at a whopping $31,000 add on.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be available through your local Porsche dealer in early 2018 with a base MSRP of $293,200.
