Ram Debuts New Multifunction Tailgate on 2019 Ram 1500

Ram have added a new Multifunction Tailgate to the 2019 Ram 1500 which adds even greater utility to a truck that already features outstanding cargo-management and storage capacity. The tailgate has of course retained its capabilities of a fully-dampened, drop-down tailgate with remote release options but adds a first-of-its-kind 60-40 split, swing-away functionality. The Multifunction Tailgate’s dual side-hinged tailgate doors to further enhance the 1500’s bed access and utility. This independent opening makes curbside loading easier and allows you to access the bed closer to the bumper which makes stepping up, loading bulky items and unloading much easier. Unlike some other multi-element tailgates, Ram’s version is completely trailer-friendly in that it does not require the trailer and hitch to be removed before opening and features a 907 kg (2,000 lb) load rating. Packaged with a spray-in bedliner, the new tailgate offers four configurations; open flat, open left door only, open right door only and open both doors. Each door swings open 88-degrees and access can also be further enhanced utilizing a retractable centre-mounted step option. In addition to the new tailgate, the Ram will continue to offer the RamBox cargo management system which provides versatile, weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bins built directly into the bed rails. In addition, the interior of the Ram offers a reimagined centre console with 12 different storage configurations as well as a true flat-load floor among other things which provide it with more than 151 litres of interior storage capacity. The Multifunction Tailgate will be available on all 2019 Ram 1500 models and will hit dealership showrooms in the second quarter of 2019.
