All-New 2019 Infiniti QX50 Showcases World’s First Production-Ready Variable Compression Ratio Engine
After recording their sixth consecutive year of sales growth in Canada, Infiniti has kicked off 2018 by introducing its brand new flagship vehicle, the all-new 2019 QX50. The new SUV has been upgraded in just about every way including a new exterior look that features Infiniti’s signature Powerful Elegance design and a new interior look, but perhaps the most talked about aspect of the QX50 will be the world’s first commercial variable compression engine. Having been in development of over 20 years, this new revolutionary engine allows the vehicle to adapt to the needs of the driver by adjusting its compression ratio to optimize its power and fuel consumption. A high compression ratio improves both efficiency and fuel consumption while a lower compression ratio allows the engine to develop more power and torque. While driving, the 2.0L VC (variable compression)-Turbo four cylinder engine is able to intelligently adjust the compression ratio between 8:1 (performance) and 14:1 (efficiency) while producing a combined fuel economy of just 7.8L/100km. The engine generates an impressive 268 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque and is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As mentioned, the new QX50 also boasts a new, more aggressive look that is much more reminiscent of other vehicle’s in Infiniti’s lineup, and also sees the introduction of ProPILOT Assist which helps the driver control acceleration, braking and steering when driving on a single lane road.
