All-New 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Unveiled with 480 lb.-ft. of Torque

The 2020 Ram 1500 is set to become Canada’s most powerful half-ton diesel pickup with the introduction of the third-generation 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine option. The redone engine will product 480 lb-ft of torque and will be able to tow up to 5,697 kg (12,560 lbs.). It will be available in all models and configurations of the 2020 Ram 1500 including, for the first time, the off-road oriented Rebel model. The 480 lb-ft will peak 400 pm earlier than the previous model and also sees an 8-percent horsepower increase, bringing the total up to 260 at 3,600 rpm. Several upgrades were of course made to the EcoDiesel to achieve the increased power including a new-generation water-cooled turbocharger, redesigned cylinder head intake ports, an optimized compression ratio, and lightweight aluminum alloy pistons just name a few. Additionally the EcoDiesel engine, which is built at the FCA Centro facility in Ferrara, Italy, utilizes dual overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder and a block cast with compacted graphite iron. The new and improved EcoDiesel engine will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2019 with pricing and fuel economy ratings to be announced closer to the on-sale date.
