All-New Third Generation Porsche Cayenne Makes Global Debut
Porsche has unveiled the brand-new, third generation 2019 Cayenne SUV that features new engines a new chassis, an innovative control concept and increased connectivity. The new look exterior carries many of the same design cues as the new 2017 Porsche Panamera while the interior also shares some of the new technologies.
Two models will be offered at launch including the Cayenne and Cayenne S. Both models will be powered by six-cylinder engines with a 3.0L single-turbo V6 that makes 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque powering the Cayenne while the Cayenne S uses a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 that makes 440 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from the new engines is rather impressive with a 0-60mph time of just 5.9 seconds for the Cayenne or 5.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package and 4.9 seconds for the Cayenne S or 4.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. Both engines are paired to a newly developed 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission that offers improved comfort and quicker response times in its lower gear range for improved performance on and off-road. Additionally, fully variable Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive is standard on all Cayenne models.
The newly developed, lighter weight chassis of the new Cayenne helps shave an overall 143 lbs. versus the previous generation even when considering the increase of standard equipment. The body of the Cayenne uses an intelligent combination of alloy and steel while its interior is made almost entirely of aluminum. The new look of the Cayenne bears a strong resemblance to its predecessors but at the same time adopts new elements that provide it with a more athletic appearance.
The 2019 Cayenne and Cayenne S models come with an MSRP of $65,700 and $82,900 respectively and will reach dealers midway through 2018.
