BMW Announces All-New M5 Competition Sedan

BMW have revealed the most powerful m5 sedan ever with the all-new 2019 BMW M5 Competition Sedan which sees the addition of 17 horsepower, enhanced chassis tuning and sharper responses. This model, along with the also new BMW M2 Competition model, marks the creation of a new product category within BMW’s M GmbH’s lineup. To differentiate from the regular M5 model, the M5 Competition Sedan features light-alloy wheels specifically developed for it, high-gloss black finish on many exterior pieces including door handles and mirrors, ‘Competition’ lettering on the truck, striped black seatbelts, and an ‘M Competition’ graphic on the instrument cluster. The new model uses the same 4.4 twin-turbocharged V8 but pushes power up to 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque which provides a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.3 seconds. A model-specific M Sport exhaust system provides an incredible exhaust note and utilizes flaps to tone it down when necessary. The engine is paired to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission for lightning quick shifts and puts power to the wheels through the M xDrive system introduced for the first time on the new 2019 BMW M5. Also added to the Competition version is model-specific engine mounts which have modified characteristics which provide the car with noticeably greater directness and precision due to the stiffer characteristics. In terms of ride height, the M5 Competition Sedan has been lowered by seven millimeters compared to the M5 Sedan which provides a lower centre of gravity for even better performance handling. To slow the car down, BMW have added low-weight M compound brakes featuring six-piston fixed calipers and perforated inner-vented brake discs on the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear. Production for this new model is expected to begin this summer with sales starting later in the year.
