BMW Reveals the First Ever BMW M2 Competition

BMW have introduced the first ever BMW M2 Competition that will be replacing the current M2 Coupe and comes with a new inline 6-cylinder engine based on the power unit found in the BMW M3 and M4. The car will retain the same general dimensions, BMW M proportions, rear wheel drive and a standard manual transmission with an optional M DCT transmission that has allowed the M2 to enjoy much success since being introduced. The aforementioned new inline 6-cylinder engine with twin Mono-Scroll turbos produces 405 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque which is a 45 horsepower and 63 lb-ft increase over the outgoing model. A dual exhaust system with electronic flap control provides a distinctive M sound and helps contribute to an impressive 0-100km time of just 4.2 seconds in the DCT optioned model. The front of the car now features enlarged BMW kidney grille openings and a new front skirt with increased air flow while new, standard M sport seats provides optimal support with the headrests integrated into the seat back rest. Under the hood features something else borrowed from the M3/M4 twins with the CFRP high-precision strut brace that is made from extremely light, but strong carbon fibre which significantly increases the front section rigidity and greatly improves steering behavior and precision. The Dynamic Stability Control has been completely recalibrated for the BMW M2 Competition and now provides improved traction and is supported by the Active M Differential which is an electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential that provides even more traction and stability. Also new for the M2 are new M Sport brakes which features front 4-piston fixed calipers and rear 2-piston fixed calipers that are designed to provide excellent performance braking in all conditions with a great resistance to fade and heat. The BMW M2 Competition is expected to arrive sometime this summer.
