Porsche GT2 RS Is Now the Fastest 911 Model of All Time

When Porsche released the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS earlier this year, it came with the claims of it being the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 ever made. These claims have now been confirmed as the GT2 RS has set a new lap record for street legal sports cars on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife with a best lap time of 6:47.3 minutes which apparently surpassed even internal expectations. The record lap was not just a single occurrence as Lars Kern of Germany and Nick Tandy of Great Britain broke the previous record for street legal sports cars and proceeded to lap the track in under 6:50 minutes on five separate laps. The record lap began under ideal track conditions at 7:11 pm local time and ended with the overall record. The 700 horsepower 911 GT2 RS was fitted with standard N-spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires during the lap.
