Toyota Introduces All-New Corolla Hatchback
Toyota has done away with the Corolla iM in favour of a new model, which is essentially the same thing but in a larger, better looking package called simply the Corolla Hatchback. The new model, which is set to debut in Canada this week at the Vancouver International Auto Show, is lower, wider and longer than is predecessor and offers a refreshed look along with a wider front and rear tracks and a longer wheelbase. The slim LED headlamps wrap into the front fenders and offer both a style and appearance upgrade. The new rear end look is highlighted by a more rounded look that provides a simple let powerful appearance. The hatch is now made from Toyota Super Olefin Plymer (TSOP) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) which is lightweight and will improve fuel efficiency thanks to a steeper angle. Inside of the new Corolla Hatchback is a simple yet effective interior that features a standard hi-res 8-in. multimedia touchscreen as the center piece which allows you to control everything from vehicle settings and audio controls to navigation and smartphone functions. The Entune 3.0 system is standard on SE and SE CVT models while Entune 3.0 Audio Plus is standard on the XSE model and optional on the aforementioned SE CVT. With the Plus system you get everything the standard system offers including Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi connect plus more and adds HD Radio, Traffic/Weather info, Sirius XM and Cache radio just to name a few. A new engine will be featured under the hood of the new Corolla Hatchback which is a TNGA 2.0L Dynamic-Force direct-injection inline four-cylinder engine that is physically smaller and lighter than the 1.8L four that it replaces. Power numbers are not yet known, but it is a safe bet that this new motor would be more powerful and efficient than the outgoing version. The new motor will be paired to either an all-new Dynamic-Shift CVT or a six-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) that features downshift rev-matching control. In addition to the new motor, the Corolla Hatchback is built upon the TNGA C platform which offers drivers a better on-road feel and fuel efficiency through the use of aluminum and high and ultra-high tensile steel in the lighter-weight chassis and body. As mentioned, power numbers are not yet known, nor are pricing numbers but we will update you when the information becomes available.
