The Skinny: The Mazda CX-5 has always been at or near the top of the compact crossover class, due to its great looks, functional interior and drivability that is truly unmatched by its segment competitors. It comes in a number of different trims with different drivetrain options in a wide variety of price points to fit just about anyone’s needs and the new Signature trim, which our test model was, really added a sense of luxury that isn’t as apparent on other trims. The use of high-quality materials, such as Abachi wood trim and Cocoa Nappa leather, doesn’t go unnoticed nor does the added power gained from the newly available turbocharged engine.
Pros: During my test week, we were hit with much more snow than normal here in Vancouver and the CX-5 handled all of it with ease.
Cons: The infotainment system need some serious updating and I still wish it wasn’t only controlable via the knob mounted just behind the shifter.
The Verdict: In order to be successful in such a competitive segment, vehicle’s must do something to stand out. With its great looks, great ride and overall great feel, the Mazda CX-5 has done just this and should easily continue its run of success.
