Ford Offering 2019 Mustang Bullitt to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Iconic Movie
In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Steve McQueen movie Bullitt, Ford has decided to introduce the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. The car was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show by a special movie featuring third-generation McQueen family member Molly in the Bullitt Mustang racing a Dodge Charger for the final free space in a parking structure. The special edition model is due out this summer is comes equipped with manual transmission with a white cue ball shift knob. The Bullitt takes all of the Mustang GT Premium features with the Performance package and adds a little more power to the 5.0L V8 engine that will produce 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque with a top speed of 262 km/h (163 mph). An active exhaust system comes standard with a black exhaust tips, and a new Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration for optimal performance. Other standard equipment for the Bullitt Mustang include a heated leather steering wheel, and 12-in. digital LCD instrument cluster that features a special Bullitt welcome screen upon start up. Only two exterior colours will be offered; Shadow Black and the classic Dark Highland Green as were featured in the movie. This will be the third time that Ford has offered a Bullitt edition Mustang after having done so back in 2001 and 2008-2009.
In the same release put out by Ford, it was announced that the long lost second 1968 Mustang GT Fastback that was used in the filming of the classic movie. The first car was sold by Warner Bros. to a private buyer with this long lost second model being sold to a salvage yard. Sean Kiernan, now owner of the long lost vehicle, inherited the car from his late father Robert in 2014 that had purchased the car in 1974. Sean had contacted Ford when he heard about the Bullitt Mustang returning and the two parties worked together to reveal the movie car along with the 2019 version at the show in Detroit.
