Plug-In Hybrid Version of All-New Jeep Wrangler Confirmed for 2020
The all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL was officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show earlier this week (a full story on that and much more from L.A. coming soon) and along with information about the new model that will be available in January, it was revealed that the Wrangler will add a Plug-In Hybrid model to its lineup. Confirmed by Jeep CEO Michael Manley, the PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) will become available as a 2020 model. Little is known about the hybrid powertrain, but it has been suggested that it may resemble the hybrid system found in Chrysler’s Pacifica minivan. This new powertrain will join the Wrangler’s now expansive lineup which includes the same 3.6L Pentastar V6 as the previous model and the new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder with eTorque technology, both of which will be offered upon the Wrangler JL’s launch. Also announced this week was the addition of the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine to the Wrangler’s lineup which will become available in 2019. This is big news for the Wrangler as they hope that different engine options will attract an even wider variety of customers their way as the previous generation featured the 3.6L V6 as its sole engine choice.
