Porsche Unveils the 2020 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder

Porsche has recently unveiled two new vehicles that will be the most powerful variants of the 718 line-up thus far with the 2020 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder. Both cars offer pure track-oriented performance and will be powered by a new 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six engine that produces 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque.

A completely brand new sport exhaust system has been designed specifically for the cars and highlights the exciting sound of the flat-six engine that can rev all the way up to 8,000 rpm. A six-speed manual transmission is the only option and offers an ‘Auto Blip’ function that automatically matches gearbox and engine speeds during a downshift. This feature can be easily activated or deactivated at the touch of a button. The GT4 is said to be capable of a top speed of 303 km/h with the 718 Spyder reaching up to 301 km/h with both cars going from 0-60 mph (96km/h) in just 4.2 seconds. The new vehicles will feature the track-bred Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) setup with adaptive dampers, helper springs on the rear axle and a ride height that is 1.18-in. lower than a standard Boxster or Cayman. The system allows users to make manual adjustments of camber, toe, ride height and anti-roll bar settings.

At the rear of the cars, a standard mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) helps maintain the ultimate traction while both also feature specifically designed 20-in. wheels with UHP tires fitted around them. In addition to the performance upgrades, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder both feature many exterior upgrades that are meant to further distinguish them as performance cars and also aid in downforce and aerodynamics. Additionally, the vehicles have been designed with weight saving in mind to increase performance, something that is evidenced by the 718 Spyder’s manually operated soft top which is much lighter than a power controlled version.

Both cars are available now at Porsche dealerships across Canada with the Spyder starting at $110,500 and the Cayman GT4 beginning at $113,800.
