Mazda Adds Engine Upgrades to the CX-5 for 2018

The Mazda CX-5 Compact Crossover SUV underwent a complete redesign for 2017 as it entered its 2nd generation and now is adding even more upgrades as it enters 2018. The Mazda SKYACIT-G 2.0L and 2.5L 4-cylinder engines offered in the CX-5 have both received updates to reduce internal friction which increases low-end torque and also provides better fuel efficiency. In addition, Mazda have added the a new cylinder deactivation technology in the 2.5L 4-cylinder option which gives it the ability to shut down the two outside cylinders at cruising speeds to maximize efficiency. Running on the two cylinders reduces pumping loss and mechanical resistance which results in an approximately 20% improvement when driving at a constant 40 km/h as opposed to 5% at a constant 80%. The technology is segment exclusive and is the only such technology offered on a four cylinder engine in North America. New standard equipment for the 2018 CX-5 include automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and illuminated power windows. In terms of safety features, the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring (ABSM), and Rear Cross Traffic (RCTA) are now standard on all CX-5 models. The 2018 CX-5 will be available nationwide at Mazda dealerships in the beginning of December.
