All-New 2019 Subaru Ascent Three-Row SUV Makes Canadian Debut in Montreal

Subaru used the recent Montreal International Auto Show for the Canadian debut of their brand-new, three-row SUV called the Ascent. The Ascent will be the largest Subaru ever built and features seating for up to eight people and includes Subaru’s symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive system and EyeSight advanced preventative safety suite. Subaru says the 2019 Ascent has been built for families since it boasts three rows of seating, a choice of bench or captain’s chairs in the second row, and a maximum of 2,056 litres of cargo space. The rear doors open 75-degrees for improved access, especially to the 3rd row, and six USB charging ports are available as are 19 standard cup and bottle holders. In terms of looks, the Ascent features a clean, upscale look that features design cues found throughout the Subaru lineup accented by 18-in. alloy wheels and an impressive 220 milimetres of ground clearance. Under the hood will be an all-new 2.4L Subaru BOXER engine paired to a high-torque Lineartronic CVT transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode. The engine produces a fairly impressive 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque which allows for a maximum towing capacity of 2,270 kg. As mentioned, the Ascent comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite that includes pre-collision braking and pre-collision brake assist, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and lane sway warning, lane keep assist and lead vehicle start alert. Other safety features are available such as the Rear/Side Vehicle Detection system, steering responsive headlights, high beam assist, and much more. The Ascent will feature four trims to choose from including Convenience, Touring, Limited and Premier and is expected to be on sale by the summer. More details are to come including pricing.
