Porsche Unveils E-Hybrid Model of the Newest Cayenne SUV

Porsche unveiled the third-generation of the Cayenne SUV late last year with three gas-engine options and now have unveiled the all-new Cayenne E-Hybrid model which replaces the Cayenne S E-Hybrid of the last generation. Despite losing the ‘S’ from its name, the new version actually has more power, range and the largest wheels ever offered by Porsche. The hybrid model uses the same 3.0L turbocharged V6 as the Cayenne but increases total horsepower and torque by integrating an electric motor and achieves a total system output of 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque with 134 horsepower and 295 lb-ft. of that coming directly from the electric motor. This allows the Cayenne E-Hybrid to go from 0-60mph (0-96km/h) in an impressive 4.7 seconds. For the new model, Porsche has completely re-engineered the hybrid powertrain componentry and utilizes a hybrid module, which is positioned between the engine and 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission, that consists of an electric motor and separating clutch. Also included with the E-Hybrid model is standard Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive and Porsche Active Suspension Management which is the same three-chamber air suspension system found elsewhere in the new Cayenne lineup. Just like Porsche’s other E-performance models, the Cayenne E-Hybrid shares a boost strategy with the 918 Spyder and offers a wide range of drive modes to fit a variety driving situations. Some of these modes include E-Power which is fully electric, E-Charge which generates more power than necessary to charge the battery, and of course Sport and Sport Plus which are all about performance. Thanks to the 14.1 kWh battery pack which is placed in the rear of the chassis beneath the load floor, the Cayenne E-Hybrid can travel up to 44km on a purely electric charge. In addition to the new model, the 2019 Cayenne lineup will also see several new features introduced including massaging seats, heated windshield, head-up display and 22-in. wheels. The Cayenne E-Hybrid model is slated to arrive at dealerships in early 2019.
